On April 23rd, the first TBM of China Railway Sunward (full-section hard rock tunnel boring machine) "Dayu" was successfully launched in the longest high-altitude hydraulic tunnel in China--Yunnan Napahai Flood Control and Regulation Tunnel Project, marking the project's official entry into the TBM construction stage. The project has entered the TBM construction phase.

 

In view of the above problems, China Railway Sunward, together with its fraternal units, took into consideration the actual construction conditions of the Napahai Tunnel, and applied precise measures to a series of technical problems such as high-altitude and long-distance tunnel ventilation, small-section and large-slope rail transportation, and high-altitude and small-section and long-distance rapid tunneling, and carried out innovative improvements to the tool, shield, propulsion support system and other systems. It finally took more than 6 months to complete the design and manufacture of the TBM, which was launched on February 27 in Deyang, Sichuan Province, and completed commissioning, installation and acceptance on March 31st.

The "Dayu" TBM overall length is about 285 meters, host machine of 20 meters, diameter of 4.64 meters, overall weight about 1,000 tons, which can realize continuous tunnel boring, and simultaneously complete the operations of rock-breaking, support, and ventilation, with less environmental pollution at the construction site, less personnel work, and fast tunneling speed and high efficiency, and is expected to boring about 500 meters in a month. It is expected to excavate about 500 meters in a month, which will effectively meet the requirements of the schedule.

After the completion of the Napahai Flood Control and Rectification Tunnel Project, it will effectively guarantee the flood control and safety of the villages around the Napahai lagoon, the farmland, the lagoon highway, the city of Shangri-La, the airport of Diqing Shangri-La, as well as the ecological environment and the landscape of the wetland of the Napahai, and the project will also lay the foundation for CRS to enter into the southwestern market once again.
